Lexus Celebrates 20 Years
The 1990 Lexus LS (pictured) and the ES 250 were the first two models Lexus introduced in 1990. A lot has changed in 20 years! Lexus celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the sale of its first vehicle, the LS 400, on September 1st. Creating an entire new luxury brand initially seemed like a tall task for Toyota but it certainly has turned out well. In 1989, Thompson Lexus was one of the 81 premier dealerships in the country. About 16,000 Lexus models sold the first year. Today, 227 Lexus dealerships account for approximately 300,000 units annually. The flagship LS and the ES 250 were the only two original models. Currently Lexus has 25 models, including four hybrids. Also notable, Lexus has gone from no J.D. Power Awards to now having earned over 180! Toyota’s on Top List of Cars Purchased through “Cash for Clunkers” The government CARS program (otherwise known as “Cash for Clunkers) helped thousands of consumers purchase more fuel efficient vehicles. Out of the Toyota line-up, three models made the top 10 list of cars purchased through the program. Corolla claimed the coveted number one spot, beating out all other domestic and foreign cars. Camry came in 4th and the Prius came in 6th, proving that America is excited to be fuel efficient in their new Toyotas! See how Toyota compared on the full list of most popular cars purchased through CARS. Lexus LX is #1 - Highest-Quality Cars Of 2009 In total, Toyota earned 10 segment awards spread across its Lexus, Toyota and Scion brands. Each segment’s winners are the models with the fewest reported problems in their class. The Toyota Venza and Scion earned significantly better ratings than their segment averages, and Lexus continually brings in the most awards 12 in the past 20 years. Lexus won 2009 awards for its IS, GS, GX, LS and LX models. Stop by Thompson Lexus to test drive the LX, which made incredible marks with the fewest quality problems of any vehicle!

The Land Cruiser ranks first place in the segment, known for being rugged off-road as well as agile on the pavement. If you’re looking for a comfortable ride both on and off-road and excellent reliability, turn to the 4Runner. The FJ Cruiser has a retro-cool design and serious off-road capabilities, but doesn’t skimp on comfort. BMW and Lexus models also ranked extremely well, with the BMW 1-Series, 3-Series and 7-Series and Lexus ES and LS all at the top of their categories. It’s always good to do some research before buying a new vehicle, but with so many different sources, it’s hard to know where to turn. The U.S. News Rankings does the leg-work for you, combining analysis of leading published auto ratings, reviews and test drives. BMW Celebrates 75 Years of Making Roadsters
BMW is generally thought of as producing some of the world’s best sports sedans, but the automaker has also made some pretty remarkable roadsters over time. Who knew that the Bavarian auto manufacturer has been a pro at making roadsters since 1934? It all started with the 315/1 sports model which debuted at the Berlin Motor Show, followed by the more powerful 319/1. Next came two unforgettable roadsters the 328 in 1936 and the classically styled 507 in the late 1950’s. BMW took a break for 30 years before they launched the next roadster in 1988, the Z1, then the Z3 in 1995 followed by the current Z4 that’s just begun its second generation. And, of course, there’s the elegant Z8. No matter what the era, the BMW roadster never goes out of style.
