Lexus LFA Supercar Steals the Spotlight in Tokyo ![]() At the recent Tokyo Motor Show in October, Lexus revealed the LFA supercar a sleek, high-performance car that Toyota boasts is the most powerful it has ever produced. The LFA combines high output chassis design and meticulous aerodynamics, producing high-rev, seamless acceleration. With its angular cutaways and vents, the supercar has a premium science fiction look. Race-bred engineering was incorporated into the design. Much of the chassis and body is made of lightweight carbon-bier reinforced polymer, the suspension components are made of lightweight aluminum alloy and the brakes are carbon-ceramic material. According to one insider, only 500 vehicles will be built and made to customer specification. Lexus is scheduled to begin production of the LFA at the end of 2010. What’s Your Color? ![]() One lucky color has reigned as the number one vehicle color choice for nine years! If you guessed silver, you’re correct. Around 35% compact, 36% midsize and 26% luxury vehicles on the road are graced in silver. However, the compounds and pigments found in paint today are more advanced than they were nine years ago, creating richer and much more diverse hues. Although it has had a long run, silver probably won’t be number one forever because trends change over time (green used to be the color champ). Look for the redesigned Lexus GX 460, now with more standard features, to reach Thompson Lexus early 2010. Lexus has continually tried to offer more in line with customer preferences since the GX hit the market in 2002, which is evident in the redesign. The new GX 460 offers both better fuel economy and more power, with a 4.6-liter, V-8 engine making 301 hp (compared to the 4.7-liter V-8 delivering 263 hp on the GX 470). For years, Lexus customers have wanted third-row seating that can fold flat with the push of a button now standard in the 2010 model. Also included is a nine-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, XM radio and iPod connectivity as well as ten airbags. Mark Templin, general manager of the Lexus Division, says “We still think there is an audience that wants a more rugged vehicle. We made it more rugged and more fuel efficient.”
Raising the Hybrid Benchmark - Lexus LF-Ch Hybrid ![]() Lexus is currently displaying its new luxury compact hybrid concept, the LF-Ch, at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show. The hybrid features contemporary style, premium features, low emissions, impressive fuel economy and a sporty performance in a 5-door package. The goal is to produce hybrid vehicles across all segments, and the LF-Ch will allow Lexus to discover the needs of consumers in a compact luxury vehicle. According Mark Templin, Lexus division group vice president and general manager, “We look forward to hearing feedback on the LF-Ch. We hope consumers like what they see so we can change the luxury hybrid marketplace again.” View the photo gallery and fill out the LF-Ch survey to tell Lexus your thoughts.
Trivia Question
Q: The seat cushions of the Lexus HS hybrid are filled with what natural substance?
A: d) While having the seats of the HS filled with potpourri might sound like a pleasant notion, it turns out dried-up cinnamon sticks and flowers aren’t quite as comfortable as foam derived from castor-seed oil.
